Other Oxford Libraries
There are over 100 libraries in Oxford, and if you are a member of the university you will be able to use many of them. For a complete list of available libraries accompanied by a very handy map, download the Map of Libraries in Oxford, or pick up a copy in a library.
Subject Libraries
There are 26 libraries which are collectively known as The Bodleian Libraries. They usually specialise in a particular subject or range of subjects, and are typically associated with a particular department or faculty.
For a complete list of Bodleian Libraries visit the Bodleian’s website.
The Bodleian
As the heart of the Central University Library, the Bodleian Old Library is one of the oldest libraries in Europe. It has three reading rooms and is open seven days a week. You can find out more about using the Bodleian Old Library on their website.
Other college libraries
As at Somerville, other college libraries are reserved for use by college members only. If you are a student wishing to study with friends from other colleges, please head for your favourite subject library with them, rather than expecting to join your friends in their college library.
College libraries do welcome researchers to their special collections and archives. And if a college library is the sole place in the university in which a book is available, then it may be possible to make an appointment with that library to view the book in question. Please note that each college library has its own access arrangements, and should be contacted directly to determine what these are. For a full list of college libraries and how to contact them, visit the Oxford College Library Guide.
