“[This portrait] was painted for the College on her retirement, by Jacomb-Hood, and was subscribed for by members of the Council and the students who had been at Somerville during her reign. She sat for it three or four times a week, and it was completed in eight weeks. It is certainly the most beautiful and satisfying of all our portraits”.
