Welcome back to college to all returning students, and welcome to Somerville to all of our new students.
For those of you returning, you may spot a few changes in the Library, as we have been busy moving books around during the summer (just to keep you on your toes!), so if you cannot find something, please do ask. However, we have put up a bit more signage to help you.
For those new to the library, Sarah will be running introductory sessions during 0th week, where she will explain in detail about the library, and indeed about libraries in Oxford generally. Towards the end of the week we will also be offering tours of the library and holding our first ever Library Scavenger Hunt, with a chance to enter a prize draw to win a £30 book token. Students old and new are welcome to take part in ‘the Hunt’.
We are aware that many students are studying hard for collections, and for this reason we ask you to do your best to keep the noise levels down in the library. However, we recognise that the library may be a place of quite a lot of activity on Thursday and Friday, so would ask those trying to study in the library to bear with us for just a couple of days, please. If you are in college with your family, you are welcome to bring them around the library, but please keep the noise to a minimum. If you would like a guided tour for your family, please ask Matthew at the library enquiry desk, who will happily show you and your family around.
Library tour times this week:
Thursday 5th October: 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00 noon, 2.00pm, 3.00pm and 4.00pm
Friday 6th October: 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00 noon, 2.00pm and 3.00pm
Over the summer we also designed this new website, which may answer many of your questions. We will be adding to it over the coming months. But as ever, if you have any questions about the library not answered on these pages, you can find us at the library enquiry desk or you can email us at library@some.ox.ac.uk.
