Using online resources
The collection of online resources available to you as a member of Oxford University is substantial.
Searching SOLO
All online resources are listed on SOLO, so SOLO is a good starting point to discover material for your essay or paper. If you are looking for a specific journal article or e-book, the simplest way to find it is to search for its title in SOLO and selecting ‘Available online’ from the filters on the left when your results are returned. If you are looking for research on a specific topic, then searching SOLO using keywords will return a range of material which match your requirements. There is also an Advanced Search option to build more sophisticated search strategies.
The Bodleian has created a detailed guide to searching SOLO, including a video of ‘Top Tips‘ and a list of frequently asked questions.
Finding specific journals
If you wish to browse the contents of a specific e-journal by title, you can return a browsable version of the journal by finding it in Browzine (clickable from the SOLO homepage): sadly the A-Z of e-journals has been withdrawn, but everything should be searchable through SOLO or Browzine.
Finding and searching a specific database
If you have been recommended to search for articles in a specific journals database, for example, Medline, you can either find the database by title on SOLO, or you can search or browse the Databases A-Z list. The university provides access to over 1,700 databases across all subjects.
Further support in finding e-resources
